Our Story
Homestead Woodworks was established in November 2018.
Three concepts come together to fully build what is Homestead Woodworks:
1) The enjoyment of working with wood and the desire to be constantly creating.
2) The appreciation and admiration of vintage, rustic, "back in the day", and farmhouse ideas and characteristics.
3) The need for an outlet, an alternate option to therapy if you will, to achieve fulfillment and to occupy a busy mind.
The short story: This was supposed to be a re-discovery of who I am and a therapy to keep my mind out of the vicious cycle of over thinking + anxiety and quickly turned into an additional source of income.
The longer version: In 2017, I was divorced. It was a long relationship, a short marriage, and the ending was chaotic and messy. I tried therapy and quickly realized, it wasn't for me, but through re-discovering who I am and what I enjoy, I picked back up on crafting and creating which brought me back to woodworking. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I can say, Homestead Woodworks would not exist if life had gone differently.
What you thought it was just me?! The majority of it is, but I get a lot of help from some important people!
My Dad: He is so helpful on this journey. He cuts all of the frame wood, offers an extra hand, and he’s great at problem solving through any conflicts that get in the way of my creative ideas. My creative abilities come from him; I watched him build a farmhouse table in a week with no plans, but just the ideas in his head.
My Mom: She is also a significant help with the business. You have likely seen her at every market shopping and supporting, she offers design opinions, and is a great soundboard and support system.
To paint the full picture of the person behind the small business and who you are supporting, here are some quick facts:
- I am a Dog Mom of 2, Chicken Mom of 12.
- In my spare time I enjoy being a "Picker" and going antiquing.
- I am Born and raised in Michigan; love the Spartans, the Lake Michigan shoreline, and going "Up North".
- If you don't find me woodworking, you'll likely find me at the gym, in the woods, or on an adventure!
- I am an outdoor enthusiast, a hunter, and an explorer of sorts.
- I often burst into song and dance when working in the woodshop or in my maker space.
- I primarily work a full time job, 8:30-5 pm, 5 Days per week.
- I believe everyone has the right to love, happiness, and joy.
I am committed as Homestead Woodworks to crafting high quality, one-of-a-kind, and meaningful items. The goal is to have my crafted items add some positivity, happiness, or reminiscence to the day. For more information on the process and materials, journey to the "Production" page.
